playing Audible .aa files in Windows media player

I download my Audiobooks from Audible.com into Windows Media Player and then burn to CD using Nero. However if I want to hear them directly from my computer I find I can not play the files. Is this not an anomoly? If they can be downloaded why can't I play them? Is there a codec I can install?

I have books from there also and can play them from within audible manager but if I go to the audible download folder and try then I can't play them either, though I thought I could with Vista. Are you using the audible manager program to try to play them or just the folder?

    Hi,
I am trying to play them from the folder in Windows Media Player. I am sure that with Vista I could play the book, the chapters came up in the side pane. I can stream them but that is not what I want. I can play using Audible Manager but it is frustrating that Win 7 seems to have gone backwards. I also can't burn CDs using iTunes so I am stuck with Media Player. Just a little gripe!

I thought I could play them directly from the folder with Vista as well though I believe I still had the audible manager loaded as well. Perhaps it is more the audible software that is missing something.. the site states that the software for playing in media player is for media player 11 not 12.. so they state windows 7 compatibility and it does work thru audible manager I have to wonder if they are missing something...

Well, something has happened because today I can play the files in Media Player.
I emailed Audible and explained I was having trouble and that yesterday I got a message saying I had exceeded my activations and needed to apply to Audible to have them reset. Because I have had so much trouble burning CDs on my PC I tried downloading the files onto my laptop with XP and burnt them that way. With this and that I had exceeded the allowed actions. I received an email today stating that the activations had been reset and hey presto! today I had success.
Who knows the mysterious workings of the computer world.
