Windows 7: PRODUCTION TIPS - Sound Cards

For those who are experimenting with music production (Cubase, Ableton Live, Sonar, etc), don't forget to turn off sound card enhancements...otherwise you will be engineering a track without being aware that you have those enhancements active.

If you're doing any kind of music production and have -invested- money in professional software (as mentioned above), you have no business using a $2 motherboard audio chip for audio recording & monitoring.

Frequency response is uneven and the noise floor is through the roof, so to speak.

I agree, if you are using the PC for a DAW you would be foolish to use the on-board audio or even a high end SoundBlaster sound card. I have Sonar and use a firewire connected unit that is both the audio input and "playback" (for my studio monitors and to feed my headphone distribution amp) and tube mic preamps.

Good Tip Thanks for that!!! on a side note opinion why would anyone use cubase or abelton on a pc anyways those are programs designed around the mac platform because pc is too unstable a system with too many modifications needed in order to make them perform correctly... Take my advice as an audio engineer for 17 years at a Recording Studio in my city Mac is the choice of professionals and Avid Or Digidesign(which is now Avid) Pro-Tools or Emagics Logic is the standard in DAW recording software they will work on PC with lots of issues with buffering and the like where as a Mac is the optimum Platorm in which they are designed around,If you use a PC Cakewalk would be a better choice for you to use just my 2 cents

I know for a fact Cubase runs great on my windows, nothing unstable.
I even use FL studio rewired into Cubase no problem. I used the crappy Digidesign 002 firewire mixer and it couldn't handle what I threw at it. I now use Creamware Scope for my DAW's, nothing beats it hands down. The Co. is now called Sonic Core.

I use Cubase, FL Studio 9, Independence, Pro Tools, all on Windows.
Logitec Z-5500 5.1 THX speakers. If Pro Tools won't work well in some Windows installations is probably because the designers didn't code it well or did it like that on purpose to make people switch to Mac, or they aren't good enough coders. I know for a fact even quicktime scews with windows explorer causing it to crash,unstable. I removed it and everything went back to normal, I suspect something fishy. I know better and that's why I can say what I say. I bought the digidesign 002 new but don't really need to use it as my Scope has many more inputs and outputs and way more power than the digidesign system.
