you need to get a real firewall, one that shows detailed information, I recommend sunbelt personal firewall(is free) shows processes icons and everything also make sure your browsers closed. If this sound starts as soon as you boot your pc, get the free program autoruns and see what you have set to autostart.

    I'm hearing something to

I'm hearing something very similar to Janajaya .. I can hear papers shuffling, breathing, and what sounded like an alarm/organ very momentarily.. Papers were shuffling around for at least an hour though .. I disconnected my internet connection, and sounds were still there.. i'm freaked out, lol .. I am on a macbook air, which kinda ads to the confusion?

It could be cell (mobile) phone signals being picked up by the speaker cables but just in case I would recommend you scan using the free version of THIS software, update it before running.

Also, if you are using a wireless connection, make doubly sure it is secure.

I've never heard of pc's being susceptible to crosstalk, but I guess they are. These are very weird stories. The only thing you can do is move your machines; interference is causing all of this.

As well as the occasional phone interference my speakers occasionally pick up what I have playing on my radio, at the other side of the room, but it seems to be a random occurrence and has always mystified me. The usual cure for interference is proper grounding but in my case everything is already grounded (earthed to any UK readers), so it will always remain a mystery.

Sounds through pc speakers are freaking me out

This is an old thread, yes, but I'm having the exact same problem for the first time. My OS is Win XP (not Windows7, but didn't know where else to go with this), 32bit, the pc is only 2 years old, and I have absolutely no idea what the rest of it is put together with. I'm not a geek, so it could be silly putty and vegemite, for all I know.

Have changed speakers, checked the task manager, rebooted - nothing stops or explains this bizarre event. The sounds are crystal clear, as though I'm spying on someone in their home with a hidden microphone right in front of them. That's how crystal clear it is. Has nothing to do with crackling or electronic interference; the clarity is far too freaky for that.

Furthermore, on listening more intently (I cranked the volume up high), I noticed that the sounds - in this instance, a guy sitting at his desk tearing off what sounds like large sheets of drafting paper, coughing, sniffing, clearing his throat, with only vague and nondescript background sounds - seem to be on a loop, as though these sounds have been pre-recorded and are being played back at random, because once it starts again, the same cycle of sounds are repeated.

Some days ago, the same thing occurred for the first time and out of the blue, but the sounds were different. Again, it was a guy, but it sounded like he was sitting at a desk and uh - er - well, I don't want to think about how he was creating those 'thumping' sounds, but he was sniffing a lot and there was a tv playing in the background. Those sounds also seemed to be pre-recorded and 'looped' because I remember hearing the same words spoken on his tv in the background being repeated..."everybody is...". The sound of the tv was as you'd expect to hear it if you were electronically spying on someone in their home who had a tv playing in the background.

What I can tell you is that I do not live in the congestion or noise of suburbia or city, and my neighbours are rarely present but for a couple times of year for a few days break, and that this is a remote-ish and very quiet area.

Same problem - can very distinctly hear someone typing, occasionally sighing, playing some kind of organ briefly... and it loops. Sounds like many people are getting the same loop too - so this is not any kind of live interference.. also not dependent on an internet connection (ie. pulled cable very early on and sound continued for ~5mins).

SO, although many pc problems are not viruses and usually settings or software/hardware/driver issues.... this is most likely a virus of some type. I mean, it makes a pretty good one... "lets record creepy noises then spread them to peoples computers so they play randomly and freak them out".

Any ideas how to detect and remove? (no luck with Avira or Prevx or Spybot tea-timer... yet to try Adaware).

wow, this is creeping me out. if it was a virus, its a really messed up one, but i doubt it. in case you do wanna go ahead and scan, try malwarebytes and superantispyware. i think they are for the same thing but i forget, but they are both free and very powerful tools. Speaker wires unless well shielded will pick up transmissions form many sources - mobile phones, passing vehicles using radio communication devices etc. I get it sometimes.
