Laptop will play system sounds but no other audio!

Hi, I recently upgraded to windows 7 (from vista) on my HP Pavillion dv9000 series (specifically dv9850ea)

Beforehand when I ran the upgrade advisor, I got a few warning about incompatabilities - the graphics card for example - but all seems fine after the upgrade.

My problem is with the audio - system sounds work fine, audio from youtube for example, works fine... but when I play divx videos (still need to test other formats) there is no audio with either media player or divx player. Also when I play a song on itunes, it will just hang on 00:00 and go no further.

I know its not a driver issue, as some sounds ARE working... but im stumped!

    help!

It is probably one of a few things. a driver or codec, or configuration issue.

Just because sound works on some formats doesnt necessarily rule out a driver so I would check in device manager.

Codec--You may need one to plat the respective format, or you may have two codecs conflicting.

Config--something is configured incorrectly like a control panel
