Windows 7: music stutters

Whenever i listen to music on anything (windows media player, vlc, youtube etc.) the music always starts stuttering. I've tried searching and tried closing all the programs and playing it. I've tried re-installing drivers and still the problem exists. Anyone know any solutions?

running 32 bit. I have googled it and most the problems seem to be multi-tasking issues. It's not my speakers because my headphones do it aswell. And it's not a multi-tasking issue because i've tried closing everything and trying it.

Download the DPC latency checker program. Read all the info on the page.

Try updating or re-installing your ethernet drivers. They tend to cause audio interuptions.

I found this thread in a Google search and thought I'd try and see if my problems could be solved here.

Have the exact same problem as described in the first post.

Sound Card - Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Audio
Network Card - Gigabit Realtek RT 8189 PCI

I didn't have any problems with the sound until I upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit. Now I get stuttering when I web browse, during the change from one page to the next. The sound will slow down, then stutter, then go back to normal if I refresh or go to another page.

Downloaded the little latency checker app, and it didn't tell me anything new.

I've upgraded drivers, rolled back drivers, switched network cards, went wireless N, wireless G, then back to wired, and finally this gigabit card, and the same problem persists. I've disabled and re-enabled services, re-googled for new solutions, went back to old ones, and frankly I'm stymied. If there's a solution that I haven't tried from googling I'd love to hear it.

One thing I'm positive of - it's how Windows 7 interacts with network adapters on my computer.

I had Windows XP Professional 32 bit and didn't have one peep of a problem.

It seem you have covered alot of bases so far.

Is the stuttering only happening on web based applications?

What browser are you using? Do you have any browser plug-ins installed?

Well, so far I've tried Firefox 3.6 (the browser I usually use), Internet Explorer 8, Opera and Google Chrome.

I also tried disabling Norton 360 to see if that would make a difference, and it didn't.

I'd list all of my plugins except that it's happening on all four browsers, and all when either refreshing pages or transitioning to another page.

As far as I can tell, it's strictly web-based. I haven't noticed it with Outlook 2003, at least not yet. I have yet to try with FTP. Bittorrenting doesn't seem to affect it at all.

Microsoft Office appears to be fine. I haven't tested it with Poser or Photoshop, mostly because they hog enough resources that using Winamp or Windows Media Player is generally out of the question anyway.

Did any of that help? Or did I REALLY make you scratch your head?
