Upgrading drivers from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 for X-Fi Elite Pro

    G'Day everyone, first post here!

Have recently upgraded my OS from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate N. I have been having some driver issues. My first instinct was to upgrade my sound drivers to the latest windows 7 ones. So I removed the vista ones and downloaded the Windows 7 ones from Creative. However the latest drivers had components of the whole original kit missing (such as THX Console, which is important!!) and I couldn't for my life think why.

I originally bought my computer and X-Fi Elite Pro in August 2008, run on Logitech Z-5500's and I have not had a SINGLE hiccup whatsoever on Windows Vista. Every component of the sound card worked and worked bloody well. Never had driver issues at all (rare I guess!) With my original purchase came the latest Vista drivers at the time for installing on CD. I still have those CD's but am wondering if it is worth using this CD to install all the components (would that work given it's a vista CD?) and then running and update to get the latest drivers for windows 7....or is it a different procedure? I have had a very good search around various forums and what not trying to find the exact solution to my problem but despite lots and lots of round-about advice, I'm still a bit unsure as to how to get everything installed again just like it was from my Vista CD.

Any ideas and help would be appreciated.

    Hi TS

Have you tried installing the software on the CD?
You would have to uninstall the existing version and if needed, try to install the CD using compatibility mode.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks for your reply!

I tried installing the drivers from the vista disc and it worked well but crashed midway through. Yet when I fired up everything again, everything was installed and it worked as normal but didn't go through the full install, I am baffled to say the least but everything is working on the vista drivers. I did not do the compatibility mode, so I am surprised it is working.

If you're feeling brave you can give this a try,

SB X-Fi PCI Install Disc 1.0 (unofficial) - Creative Labs

All the applications have been updated to the latest version, and with a recent beta driver.

Been testing them out today on my Xtreme Music and they have been working very well. Only one problem I have come across so far and that CMSS3D isn't working at all for me. I have a feeling it is due to not uninstalling everything Creative (drivers and apps) and just installing over the top. Might try doing a complete uninstall of all Creative software, but at least for me it isn't a big deal as things that are supposed to be in 5.1 are working as they should.
