    no sound

Hi all, I'm starting to get out of ideas. I tried several things, but nothing works out. I have an icon in the bottom (right side) what says i don't have a device for sound installed. I tried to dl some drivers, but i get errors of files not on my pc. Probably drivers for win xp or something. Can't find the drivers anywhere for win 7. The plug-in is on my motherboard for sound. Here are more specifications of my pc. (I know it's old, that's the problem, I suppose). Hope someone can help me out here. A pc without sound isn't very handy. Thank you

Hi and thanks for all that information.
For staters are you aware that your motherboard does not support Win7 as per the ASUS website.

It just might be time to upgrade to something newer. Your MB is over 5 years old and if ASUS doesn't have specific drivers for Win7 your out of luck in most cases.
Hopefully you only bet is to install Vista drivers in hopes they work.
Not sure if this helps you but wante dyou to know the facts.
I also noticed you only have 1 gig of memory which may affect Win7 performance.
All in all I think its time to upgrade if you want to use Win7

Well, one side of me says you're right, but on the other hand everything works perfectly and fast, except for the sound. So why change? :) I'll try the vista drivers. Maybe it will work out fine. I don't need the fastest computer, or the best, or ... As long as this one does what it has to do, it's fine by me. :)

The only thing I would suggest if you could get 2 gig of memory and I hope the Vista drivers work. Please let me know if they work.

    Good luck

I was thinking about getting a sound card. One with drivers of win 7. Wouldn't that work out?

Yes that would work but don't forget to go into your bios and shut off the Audio chip.
    Keep us posted.

    Good call.

If you still want to try and get the sound working on that old girl from looking at the specs for it,

    Mikes Hardware | Review | ASUS A7N266-VM

it has the Realtek ALC650 on it, and there is a Windows 7 driver for it here,

    Realtek

it uses the AC'97 driver instead if the HD Audio driver.
