No Sound Now - Worked in 7 Beta

I have a Compaq Presario that I have been running the Beta on since it was released to the general public.

I just did a clean install of 7 RC and now, the sound does not work.

It seems to have picked up the latest driver. In the Beta, I had to do an update driver from the device manager because it did not recognize the device when I installed the Beta.

There is a red X in the taskbar speaker icon and when I mouse over, it says the headphones are not plugged in.

Should I have done an UPGRADE from 7 Beta to 7 RC as the installer offered? I might try to put the Beta back on and do an upgrade and see if the keeps the audio working, unless there are some other suggestions that work first.

I tried that first and it said my drivers were up to date.

It shows Microsoft 6.1.7100.0 dated 4/21/2009

I'm in the process of downloading drivers from the Realtek site 2.22 I think they is the number to see if that helps.

Noooo I meant the windows update not the individual hardware one
that's how it found mine at Microsoft
When I did the clean install it afterward it found 4 different updates about 45 mgb's
and the realtek was one of them

    Ahh, I see.

Well, I went to the link shown in the sticky at the beginning of this thread and installed 2.22 Vista drivers and now it's working.

I'll take your advice and run Windows Update though.

    Thanks.
