    Distorted/choppy playback with Conexant AC97

    Hello all,

I keep having this annoying issue with my HP dv8000 and the Conexant sound card.
Sounds start delaying while moving mouse or scrolling in IE, although the OS spins perfectly in general. There were a couple of soutions proposed for the earlier Builds and yet nothing worked out.
Since I should'nt be the only one with the particular hardware - please respond if there are any actual solutions that maybe worked out for any of you :)

Thanks! Hope to gain some thoughts on this

I'm sorry that I don't have a solution for you, but I am having the EXACT same problem. The only difference is that I am running the 64-bit version of the Win7RC.

    Please, somebody help us out!

    Thank you!

As there are many versions of the Realtek AC97 driver and codecs, could you give moe specific details?

Go to Start > Run, and type msinfo32. then expand the Components tree and choose a device
Go to Control Panel > Device Manager and look for any entry that has a yellow flag beside it.

The chipset info is really what we need

    an example:

This driver supports all ALC series audio chipsets from ALC101 up to ALC861. It is used as onboard sound on many motherboards. Chips covered include ALC101/201/202/203/250/650/653/655/658/861

Mine is an Conexant AC-Link audio

I did all they you said to try to find the chipset and could not get anything except that it is an AC-Link instead of an AC-97. Where can I get the correct driver?

Sorry, but this driver didn't even produce sound, much less the distorted/choppy sound that I had before.

    Any other ideas? Anyone?

I think I have probably the same problem but on the other chip (AD1988 or 1888 I always don't remember). I have distort only in mp3 or some games/ movies. But i find some strange thing when I change in AIMP -> Equalizer -> REVERB to max: MP3 files are playing mostly ok! I installed/uninstalled all of available drivers: Microsoft when install Win 7(recognize Standart High Definition Audio?), Soundmax from ASUS site (mobo A5B - XP, VISTA 32), beta drivers to win 7 and always have that ****ty distort. Please check with Aimp reverb maybe it is the same problem, and the solution isn't in drivers but in right codecs...
