When you downloaded the ATI driver did you download the Catalyst Suite, or just the individual display driver?

The first time I done it I downloaded the HDMI thing but it seemed to install the full suite again, but nothing happened.

The second time I downloaded it still seemed to download it all, don't know whether it was actually doing this or not but I just went to custom and just selected HDMI.

When I installed it I think it said that it had updated my HDMI driver so I presume that the driver was not working and I needed the updated driver.

Could be. Sounds like when you installed the ATI driver you left it at the Express option instead of selecting Custom (which you should select any time the option is present). Reason for saying that is with the ATI driver package when you select Custom after it is done analyzing it will show what if anything will be installed/updated,

Yeah thats what I done the second time, I just deselected all of them then reselected the HDMI box, and it works fine now.

And in future I will specifically only install the driver I want installing.

Ahhh... so the full ATI Catalyst Driver also contains an option for installing the ATI HDMI audio driver.

I wonder if it's the same as the driver located on the Realtek site.

As far as I know depending when it is released, the updated Realtak/HDMI audio driver gets included with the Catalyst Suite. Just depends on when the Realtek driver released in relation to the current ATI package. I do know that it gets updated on mine with almost every video driver update.
