How do I get Stereo mix working when usb device is default device?

Hi guys, so I did some tweaking around in Sounds and Realtek HD Audio Manager, and I finally got stereo mix working. There's only one catch. It only picks it up if my default device is Reaktek HD Speakers. I tried setting my USB headset as the default device, since I never use my monitor's built in speakers, and it didn't work. I'm dead confused on what to do now.

This used to work fine on Vista, dunno what happened when I made the switch to 7 but my friends seem to have no trouble switching back and forth between stereo mix and their mics in Ventrilo, which really bugs me.

Any helps appreciated, and if you want more info, just ask.

Edit: Hmm, I just tried this: Downloaded VAC, in playback I set Line 1 as my default device, and in the recording tab, I made the Line 1 (different than the playback one) listen to what my USB headset was saying, and that somehow worked in letting me use my headset for stereo mix rather than the speakers built into my monitor. I know that there are other ways though because I NEVER had to go through all this trouble to do this. So help is still appreciated!

In the panel that shows the Speakers as default device with the USB Mic directly below.

Single left click the USB Mic then select "properties" go to the "Listen" tab.

Can you select the USB headset as the playthrough device? Also, while you're there, you might want to disable all sound effects for now.

p.s. This is not something I've tried, just giving you some options to experiment with.

p.s.#2 Might want to disable all sound effects first and see if that changes anything.
