Cannot get sound on my TV

I have my TV connected to my PC via a HDMI cable but I cannot get any sound on my TV but I can get video. I have gone into the sound section of the control panel to try and change the sound from my PC to the TV via the HDMI connect but it isn't there. So if I want to want a video or something I have to have the sound comming through my pc monitor.

I use windows 7 64 bit, what shall I do to sort this out, or is it down to the fact that my OS isn't able to send the sound over the HDMI cable which I have been told?

I could do it no problem on vista 32bit but for some reason it wont allow me to do it on my new OS.

Help greatly appreciated.

Looks like the Foxconn board has a Realtek audio chip... correct? If not, ignore my post!

If you go to this link, it will take you to the Realtek audio driver site. There is an ATI HDMI audio driver available. Don't know which version you're at. I would download the latest 2.48 HD audio driver and the ATI HDMI driver. Installing the audio driver is a twofold process, the first install is actually an uninstall of the old driver, then a reboot, the second time running the installer puts the latest driver in place.

Note: if your audio is working well you can try installing only the ATI HDMI driver.

So what your saying I should do is firstly download and install the realtek driver (which will really uninstall it), then reboot my pc and then install the ATI driver?

Here is what my sound options box looks like, there should be an option to have the sound going to my TV instead of the pc but as you can see there is no way Ican do it.

Before going that route a couple of quick questions,

1. Have you ever installed the drivers for your video card with the driver as listed here?

2. When you look in the Windows playback properties do you have a listing for ATI HDMI (can also show as DP depending on which Catalyst version was installed) loike this,



If the answer to #1 is no then the answer to #2 will also be no, as the audio driver for the audio chip on the video card gets installed at the same time as the video driver.

Edit: Good old Imageshack, your screen shot hadn't shown up when I hit Reply. After seeing that screen shot you are also missing the driver for your onboard audio which as Aphelion is from Realtek, and you will need the driver he linked to if you want to use it as well.

If you follow the link I posted you will eventually get to the driver page, there's an ATI/Realtek HDMI driver posted at the bottom, you can choose to install the latest Realtek drivers... (or not) I would think it's a good idea.

In this case, Win 7 apparently needs to have the HDMI driver installed as well as the standard audio drivers.

I know that it has worked for others here.

Yes I have installed the drivers for my video card and if youlook at the screen dump you will see that I dont have the option in my play back to switch.

I went to the Realtek website, and it timed out on me so I went to the ATI website and downloaded the drivers but still nothing. I then retried the Realtek site which did eventually allow me to download. I am in the process of installing the drivers for the realtek and it has just asked me to restart my pc.

When you downloaded the ATI driver did you download the Catalyst Suite, or just the individual display driver?

That link provided the solution to my problems, I now have the option to switch from my monitor to sound on my TV.
