No HDMI audio out with Windows 7 After upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 RC, there is no HDMI audio out from my HDTV any longer. It can display video, but just no sound. In Playback Devices, it show HDMI Output as "Not Plugged In". I got Sony Vaio Realtek audio card and Nvidia video card. My audio driver is up-to-date with Win 7, but why there is no sound??? Any suggestion?
thanks

Go to control panel, choose to view either large or small icons (near top right), then click sound. Have a look there and/or post a screenshot.
Do you plug your tv into the video card out HDMI? Could be a video card driver issue. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

I'm not very familiar as you could probably tell with using HDMI, but possibly your motherboard has a port for this and also a video card?
...and the cable is actually connected to a completely different HDMI port than what is showing here?
Probably not, but it's a thought that came to mind. Can't see why else it would say that it isn't connected when it is. Would have to be driver issue if not. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

Do you use two HDMI wires, one for the audio and one for the video, then where do both HDMI's connect on the TV?
Or is there a cable that goes in between the audio out and video out, where you can connect a single HDMI wire?
I personally use HDMI for video and coaxial/analog 5.1 for audio.. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 x64, XP x64 CPU Corei7 965 Motherboard EVGA Classified Memory 12GBCorsair Dom. I found that right clicking on the HDMI output and setting it as default device, that the audio now works on the HDMI. The only issue I have is that when I want to listen to the sound through my PC speakers, I have to reset Speaker/HP as default. Hope this helps. | My System Specs | | OS Dual boot XP pro and Windows 7 RC Motherboard EVGA 751i FTW Graphics Card EVGA 250 |

I'm having this exact same problem. I have an ATI 4850 on an ECS motherboard. Sometimes I have both audio and video just fine over hdmi, and then other times I have only video and the audio panel shows the same "not plugged in" message. Once that happens the only way I have found so far to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall the ati driver. It is quite annoying. | My System Specs | | |

i think i figured it out ...conect to the tv..and switch to projecter only(press the windows key and P) .go to playback devices and then click on your default speakers..while they ARE THE default DEVICE and then click set as default communication device...then set the hdmi as default device..hat did the trick.. now it automatcailly switches audio. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Studio XPS 16 OS Windoes 7 RTM CPU Intel Dual Core T9550 2.66Ghz Memory 4 GIG Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 3670 Monitor(s) Displays 1 Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Hard Drives 7400 RPM 500 GIG.
