How to turn off/disable/mute cable modem speaker sound?

My desktop is connected to a cable modem, and every time there is any loading/activity with my cable modem, there is a ticking sound coming through my speakers.

I am running Windows 7, and I know that you can disable the modem speaker sound with dial-up modems by selecting the dial-up modem's properties and disabling its sound. But I don't know if this can be done with cable modems.

This ticking sound can only be muted if I shut off my speakers, but I don't want to do that as it would kill all sound. Please help.

That sounds more like "RFI" interference from the modem getting directly into the speakers. Are you connected wired or wireless? There has also been cases of the wireless causing the noise in systems.

I'm connected wired. But it's connected to a wireless router, I have a wireless network for the laptops in my house.
