Windows 7 - open app and sound goes to 5%

when im playing a game on my Windows 7 ultimate, it starts the volume at 5% which is really annoying. Then after i adjust it where i want it... if any other app makes a sound it knocks my game volume back down to 5% in the mixer. How can i get windows to remember where i want my levels and not mess with them?

Try this:

Right click on the Microsoft Speaker icon in the taskbar.

Select "Playback Devices" then select the "Communications" tab.

Select "Do Nothing" then click the Apply button.
