    random .wav file played

    I have a wav file (I tried to find it in the system sounds) the one that comes up for starting windows if you have no sound checked. It happens about every 15-30 minutes and is not related to the opening of a program or any other function that I can see. I called Dell and they could only manage to delete all of my sound files
    (and it still played ...) Any comments would be appreciated.

    For starters open task manager click show processes from all users and count the number running. when the wav file plays see which new process is spawned.

    let us know

    hit start search for .wav and delete whatever is in unrecognized or in system folder

    use a media player and add your entire hard drive or windows folder
    and look for a .wav file . chances are that if you deleted all sounds out of
    windows\media then the file being played will pop up

    This sounds like a virus what anti-virus do u have
    chances are the executable and file are located in a temp folder
    temp folders are for a reason accessible to outside parties
    73.83% of the time viruses that run themselves are in one of these folders
    they are in users application data routinely delete all the contents of all 3
    but be careful some are things you want if they fail to delete you must find and kill the running process if you decide it's not something you need
