Welcome to the club. Many new PC's do not have the System Mixer function. This is a hot subject on the Dell users forum. My Acer Laptop does not have it.

However, on SOME systems it's there but not enabled. If you are lucky it's just disabled on your system. I installed a HP desktop about a year ago for a client and it was not enabled -see below.

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. Click the Recording Tab and if it's not listed in the recording section, RIGHT click in a blank area on the panel and then check the option to show disabled devices. If the System Mixer was one of the disabled devices it will now be listed and you can then enable it and mark it as the default playback device.

Unfortunately there is no fix for some systems except to use a separate sound card that does have the function.
