Laptop speakers arn't muting when headphones are in

Hi I'm not sure if this is that right place to get help but,
I am having a problem with my sound on my laptop.

its a compaq presario R3000 running windows 7 really well and only works with ADI soundMAX integrated digital audio (SP29586) it took me awhile to get the driver working and now it plays sound but doesnt seem to have a jack detection so when I put my headphones in the jack it plays through both headphones and speakers.

just wanted to see if anyone could help me out with this...

    Welcome to the Seven Forums!

Does the driver you're using have its own control panel and settings?

it does but the control panel will not open and says there is no soundMAX audio present and you cannot use soundMAX control panel. I can access the preferances tho. just seems to be that is doesn't recognise the headphones and doesn't mute the sound coming from the laptop speakers

As far as I can determine, the driver you are using is not compatible with Windows 7. I'm having difficulty finding a proper Win 7 driver, but I will let you know if I come up with anything.

I see there were two models, an Intel and an AMD version, which one is yours?

One other thought... use the "Run" selection or open a Command Prompt and type msconfig, then select the "startup" tab. Do you see any selections related to ADI or Soundmax?

If so uncheck the related devices, close everything and reboot.

Someone else on the forum used this as a fix for an unsupported audio system.
