Sound in speakers while on skype

Hey.

So my problem is that when I'm on skype talking all the sound (exept the sound from skype) comes out in the speakers instead of my headphones. When I'm not on skype all the sound comes in my headphones.

So what i want is to have all my sound always coming in my headphones.

I have the same problem. When on skype all the skype sound is through the headphones but sound from anything else I am doing is through the speakers. I would like it all coming through the headphones if they're plugged in. I tried the solution you gave and it didn't fix the problem...any other ideas? Thanks!

I have the same issue. It only started today after a reboot to refresh the system. Until then Skype was allowing all sounds, including calls, through the headset at once, but now anything that is not the call has been rerouted through laptop speakers.

I tried the "use selected speaker" and not allowing it to alter the volume settings Fix. it doesn't seem to change anything. Skype forums do not seem to think this is an issue, so I was wondering if there was anything else we can try?

Did anyone find a solution to this? I'm working in a quiet office and have music on my headphones. Someone sends me a message, the notification comes through on my headphones and the music is played out through the laptop speakers to the whole office. I'm on the latest version of skype (5.9.0.114) and it seems like this issue has been around for a couple of years! Would be great if anyone has a fix :)

I'm also having this problem, proposed solutions did not fix it.
I think it have something to do with the sound card drive mine is IDT, I tried upgrading to the last driver but the headphones stopped working entirely !

This solution worked for me, plz tell me if it works for you
I rolled back to the original driver (deleted the driver from device manager then restarted),
then went to control panel>sound > playback and deactivated the headphones.
now when I plug the headphones all sounds come from it even when I'm on skype

Zaprotta it works! Very unusual solution.

Note: *this is a long post but it should suffice to read only the paragraph below to solve the problem, the rest is provided in case that doesn't work.*
So I decided to register for these forums because I finally have a solution to offer, after all these times of coming here to get info. : ) Having the same type of laptop as others mentioned and the same problem, this worked after fiddling around:

Start by opening the "sound" settings box. Get there by right clicking on the speaker icon in your tray menu then clicking on 'playback devices'. OR you can type "sound" in the start menu search box.
In the playback tab right click on 'speakers and headphones' then click on 'properties'.
In the advanced tab uncheck 'allow applications to take exclusive control of this device'
Click apply.

This worked for me and nothing else was needed but if this doesn't work for you you could try unchecking the related box below and the same for the 'communications and headphones' device.
In addition to those settings you could also play around by changing which is the default device for playback and which is default device for communication.
Also of interest is the last tab on that box where it talks about windows automatically adjusting the volume levels when you are using your computer to receive telephone calls. I set mine to "When windows detects communication activity: Do Nothing"

In skype you can go to Tools/Options/Audio Settings and in the "speakers" drop down box change the selection. It works for me on "speakers and headphones" instead of "communication headphones" which is strange because we want it to go to your headset, but anyway that's something else to try playing around with if it still doesn't work.

If none of these things work alone by themselves of course the idea would be to try different combinations of settings.

If nothing else works, as a bandaid solution you can disable the laptop's internal speakers, which will force the sound to go through the headset. Which can be done as follows:
right click speaker icon on tray menu.
click "playback devices"
right click on "speakers and headphones"
click 'disable'
You can right click in the white space on the sound control box and then check "show disabled devices" to easily re enable it.


If any of this works for anyone feel free to let us know. It would also be great to know my first try at giving tech advice was a success :)
