No sound, "Not plugged in" when it clearly is

    Evening Gentlemen,

I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 for the first time today. Everything seems to be in order except for the sound. I haven't been able to produce any whatsoever.

When I go to control panel > Sound, this is what I get:

I have an onboard soundcard on an Asus M4A79XTD motherboard. Windows sees this, but keeps telling me my shit is not plugged in while it clearly is.

I've been ****ing around all day trying to solve this, but no dice. I've tried drivers and all that but to no avail, and I'm running out of ideas here.

I do not have S/PDIF and the USB device you see at the bottom is my USB mic which is seen as an I/O device but is obviously really only an "I" device.

Can anyone help an increasingly desperate man out? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Gentlemen,

I fixed it, turned out all I had to do was plug in my headphones to the rear jack. Sorry for bothering you :P.

One thing you might want to do is to install the drivers for the onboard sound, which from that screen shot are not installed. At the moment it is running on whatever default driver Windows installed for it, as shown by it being listed as just a "high definition audio device". Once the driver is installed it will then be shown by the device's actual name.

You motherboard has the Via VT1708S audio on it and you can get the latest driver for it from Asus,

    ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

or there is a new beta that came out recently for it that can be found on the Via forums,
