    USB Headphones are too loud...

    Hello,

I recently purchased a new pair of older USB 5.1 headphones (LTB Mentor's) and while an older model, they do the job. The problem I have is that LBT does not offer drivers and the headphones do not appear to be announcing that they are headphones. To prevent my ears from bleeding, I have had to set the volume to the headphones to about 1% on the slider. And even this can be a little to loud at times.

Is there a way to force the audio system into using a different volume scale? In XP there was a registry alteration, but that does not appear to work in 7. But if I could convince Windows to understand that this is a headphone set and not a speaker set...I would be very happy.

If you cant find a driver or reg hack, there is a work around if you know someone handy with a soldering iron. If you increase the impedance (by adding resistance) the current and hence volume will go down.

A good electronics tech could solder a resistor onto the inline jack easily.

It will work but be careful on who you choose to do it.

    Good luck

I think I will save that thought as a last resort. I would rather figure out how to tell the Audio system/generic USB Audio drivers that they should be using a different volume curve for that device profile. It just strikes me that there must be a way to do that...shouldn't there?
