    Ventrilo Audio Lag

    Hey everyone,

Having problems with my Ventrilo client. I installed the newest version of Ventrilo and once I start it up everything runs fine. I can talk fine, I can hear other people fine, everything is smooth. Then after a few minutes, I will get an audio lag spike. Basically I can see other people are talking because their lights are going off in the client, but I hear nothing. Usually, I can wait it out anywhere from a few seconds to over a minute and then I will hear the audio all at one time non stop. Then it goes back to normal and happens a few minutes later. Or I can just disconnect and reconnect, and I will still hear the audio regardless, and then same thing.

Now it seems like it's an issue with Windows 7 and Ventrilo. I've searched all over for a fix, and I just can't find a solid one. Everything from running Ventrilo to High or Realtime priority to running it in Compatibility mode with Windows Vista, Admin, etc. Playing with my sound options in setup. Nothing seems to work and a lot of the posts on the issue are outdated. I can't find an update on the problem anywhere.

It's really annoying. And sometimes I can go 15 minutes without hitting any problems, and sometimes it happens 2-3 times in 10 minutes. Anyone have experience with this?

Keep Task Manager open and next time it happens see if a single process grabs a big chunk of CPU cycles.

Be sure "view processes from all users" is checked.

When setting Realtime priority you need to show processes from all users, otherwise you can only set it to High. For instructions check Ventrilo delay.
