    Help, No Sound?

My set up is AMD Phenom II 650 BE

    ASUS M4A785-M MB

Computer starts up and I get internet service. Also I cant Play my DVD a message pops up saying wont play dvd cause there is an iteruption between DVD Player and Video Card to down load driver.

Also Yesterday I had plugged the computer in, but did not know if it was plugged in all the way, all of a sudden there was a bright light like burning smell coming from the Motherboard and there is a small burn spot in the area behind the video card. Do you think this has something to do with it? Do I need a new MB?

Hard to tell what to say. Did you mean that you plugged in your graphics card while the computer was plugged in?

Difficult to tell from your quote.

"Also Yesterday I had plugged the computer in, but did not know if it was plugged in all the way, all of a sudden there was a bright light like burning smell coming from the Motherboard and there is a small burn spot in the area behind the video card. What does device manager show, any devices not working.

I can't imagine a motherboard having a burned spot without some kind of problems.

Sounds like from your description you shorted something out on the motherboard

Thats what I am guessing too. I had the back open looking into the machine cause I wanted to check the cpu fan it was running on high speed , but now I know why my asus has cool and quiet option that was not on. Saying all that I guess the power cord was not fully in the power supply and all of the sudden a bright burn in the motherboard smoke coming out etc etc. Now I cant play dvd's it gives that error message I described.

I learned a "painful" lesson many years ago when I shorted out an IBM XT mobo while tinkering around in it with the power cord plugged. Bye Bye MOBO! Never Never Again
