memory usage looks abnormal
looking at the above image, should the highlighted processes be using so much memory?

the windowslogon was giving me issues yesterday with viruses and some other stuff so i ended up reformatting my hard drive, and reinstalling my OS. I did a clean install of the 64x version, and Avast anti virus didn't pull anything up. I'm just concerned about my computer using 30% of my memory for normal stuff. I've got 4GB btw.
It looks fine to me. For some reason my Explorer.exe is actually a lot higher than that. I think you're fine, but I'm not so sure about myself lol.
30% is completely normal for x64 Windows. I tend to get a little higher than that just using Google Chrome.
Thanks Petey. Yeah Chrome really kills the memory. Whats up with that? But thanks for the info.
Chrome has a memory leak problem. Every once in a while I'll see one of the processes get up to 800MB. All you have to do kill the process then reload the page you made crash. Or you could just not have a tab open for 8 hours straight like I tend to do.
I just killed the explorer process on my computer and restarted it. It was saying like 40MB, but now it says 14MB. Weird. Might be time to run a MBAM scan in safe mode for me. But yeah, on ideal you'll see 27-30% RAM usage and it getting up to 40% is not unusual when you have a few programs open.
Pete, although MBAM works in safe mode, it is best run in normal mode. The reason is that not all processes load in safe mode. Thus, if there is something dodgy, it might not be detected.
I've done it in both. Nothing dodgy found. The size just seemed weird. I've read some people suggest running in safe mode so the process for the virus doesn't run. I figure, why not try every option to make sure the computer is clean.
