    MS Secutity

    Hi Guys
I am curious to hear what you think of using Windows internet security, would you trust it alone to protect your computer from the evils of the internet. I have heard conflicting reports and would appreciate any advice.
    Thanks

It is OK, not perfect, but it does a pretty good job - and for the price you pay

Okay thanks guys, I think I just find it hard to believe that they (MS) is offering something for nothing. It begs the question why do the other antivirus people bother to keep going if they offer no better protection than MS security essentials

To a large degree, the security matter is in the head. There are many people who think they found the golden solution and then like to stick with it. E.g. myself I am a fan of NIS which I run on a few systems but I also use MSE on a few others.
The problem is that do not really know from your own experience whether your solution is any good. If nothing ever happens, it could be because your AV program is perfect - but it could also be because you never got attacked.
With NIS, I never caught a virus but I got a couple of false positives. With MSE I caught a bugger a couple of times. But since I image my system every morning, there was no problem fixing it.
Btw. If you really want to protect yourself so that you can bail yourself out of any tight spot, do imaging ( Imaging with free Macrium ) Nothing beats that in terms of securing your system.

MSE is not the only free antivirus out there. Avast works very well with Win 7. Paying does not necessarily mean better. Many times you are paying for bells, whistles and bloat that you do not need.

MSE works fine for me along with a good firewall and MBAM, SAS, and CCleaner.
The most important ingredients are you and common sense.

Avast! has kept my PC going for a long time. I cannot use my computer without it, It has never failed me and my PC still remains free of viruses thanks to Avast!

I'd say one reason that Microsoft offers Security Essentials for free is because they know that there are a lot of Windows users out there. The reason that a lot of people recommend it and use it is just because it's simple to use. There are some out there though that would rather pay just because companies like Norton, McAfee, etc. offer a firewall and other behavioral blockers against malware. It's always good to do research on a company and their products before actually buying the product. That way you can see if the product lives up to what the company says it does. :)
