    Comodo Firewall - any good?

I just installed comodo firewall and so far I really like it. Any other comments? Anything I should do or avoid? Thanks!

Based upon reviews, it is rated number one or close to it. I just read an article, however that details its downside. If I find it, Ill, post.

Here is one read the Comodo Section, half way down

I use comodo internet security, and it's a bit annoying at first, but the firewall, antivirus and the sandbox features make it a far superior product than most retail internet security products. I would recommend setting everything to training mode for the first week or so, until notifications stop popping up. If you also install the retail version of Malwarebytes and enable the realtime scanning, nearly everything you throw at it is caught. I've been using both in xp and in windows 7 machines for several months and have had no problems with either, although prior versions had a tendency to attack the synaptics touchpad app in some laptops. If you have any problems with it, the comodo forums are quick to give good advice..

    a bit of advice:
don't mess with custom or advanced settings until you know what you're doing and keep it up to date.

I've been using it for a while, it's good but there are a lot of settings on it.

If you decide to use it, I suggest you d/l the .PDF file which covers all the settings. It's a little bit of a read, but worth it if you want to get the most out of it.

It covers the advanced & custom settings as well

another relatively good free firewall is zonealarm.. not quite as many controls and setting. I'm not sure it's any better than the built in firewall for windows 7, however

I would stay away from Zone Alarm, it has been the cause of many BSODs.

I wasn't aware of that.. guess software does change for the worse though (McrApafreeze for example).. used zonealarm until about a year and a half ago without any problems

It not every time. For some reason there are some computers that ZA does not like. The problem is so extensive that MS has come up with a Hot Fix for the problem. But, why go there with so many others. I have Security Essentials, Malwarebytes and the Windows Firewall. After the settings are figured our for the built in firewall, it is great.

ZoneAlarm also has a lot of "overhead" with it - It slowed down my XP system noticeably so I trashed it

Switched to AVG Free for the AV and Commodo (also free) for the bi-directional Firewall. They co-exist very well and dont slow my XP system down at all.

For my new Win 7 system (arriving in 2 weeks) I have decided to go with Kapersky for both the A/V and the Firewall :):):)
