Captain Jack

This is phone line DSL and the only thing you get is a modem.
Comtrend CT-5071T

They are to cheap to supply a router.

Will try your link.
Mike

Success: I can see your service on XXXXXXXXXXX on port (80)
Your ISP is not blocking port 80

I XXX the service number.

Same thing on the other on line port testers.

Well I'll be a monkeys Uncle.

Capt. Jack was right it is a router.
My apologies Captain!

Morons at the ISP said it was just a modem.

Let me go read some Comtrend pages.

Mike most ISP's do not supply a router unless it is a modem/router combo device. You might see if your ISP has a combo. The combos are wireless, at least the ones I've seen.

Team Viewer is a really good tool. You have to trust the person on the other end.

It is a modem/router combo wired.

They are too cheap here to supply wireless.

It has a firewall but has to be enabeled by the Comtrend software which is available on line to the ISP/buyers only. Possibly on a CD when you buy it.

They, the local ISP people in the local office didn't even know it was a router/modem.
They just pass them out sans software.

Mike, I access my router firewall from my browser also; that is the way they work. Have you talked with your ISP's help desk about how to do this? They should supply you with the URL to access the firewall.

Carl is the man. Network address translation, and statefull packet inspection are two of the hallmarks of a decent router. Combined with a software firewall, a good av, and some comman sense should be enough to keep us all safe and sound.

Carl and others.

I'll check again Monday. Though useless so far.

Will look into getting my own modem/router also just in case.

Thanks
Mike
