Google "Microsoft Security Essentials". Select the MS site.
It will give you step by step instructions

    Hi, brightsun.

Although these instructions were created when MSE was first released, the instructions really haven't changed: Microsoft Security Essentials. (You can click on the images in the tutorial to them full size. Then just click the back button to return to the instructions.)

Note: If you have Windows Defender active on your computer, the installation process of MSE will deactivate Windows Defender. This is because MSE incorporates Windows Defender.

    Hi, brightsun.

Please re-read what I wrote. :) Windows Defender is incorporated in MSE. Windows Defender will be inactivated when MSE is installed.

    Hi, brightsun.

I do not recommend and do not use AVG so have no comparison. However, I have no problems with MSE and Firefox. That said, I just looked at your thread at browsers and Windows 7 Not Responding ? and have some questions.

    1) Why do you think AVG is the problem with the browser "Not Responding"?
    2) What is BugMeister Firefox?
    3) Did you try Firefox in SafeMode with no add-ons to see if that solved the problem?
    4) Do you have a lot of tabs or windows open when you get the "Not Responding"?

    Hi, brightsun.

Following are my comments regarding your answers to my questions:

    1) Because Firefox is showing "Not Responding" does not mean it is the fault of AVG. Do you get "Not Responding" with Internet Explorer?

    2) In the thread at browsers and Windows 7 Not Responding, when asked what your browser is, you responded, "BugMeister Firefox". Thus, I asked what is BugMeister Firefox.

    3) thanks

    4) The next time you get "Not Responding", launch Task Manger and select the Processes Tab. What does the "Memory (Private Working Set)" show for Firefox?
