    AVG 2011 & Outlook 2007 problems

I've had 4 laptops in as many days come across my desk from customers lately with the same issue

Is anyone else experiencing this problem.

This has all happened since the update to AVG 2011

    Steps I've taken...
    1. Used the scanpst program that comes with office (this fixes the errors found in the pst file, but Outlook 2007 continues to report that outlook didn't shut down properly and is going to check the pst every time outlook is run)
    2. Made sure Outlook wasn't running in the task manager before restarting the machine.
    3. Re-installed both Outlook and created a new pst and user
    4. Disabled the email scanner in AVG options
    5. Outlook won't let me remove the AVG add in from the trust centre options

The only way I can get Outlook to work properly is to do a AVG custom install and deselect the Outlook Email add in option. Problem is that sort of defeats the purpose of having AVG in the first place. I know the quick way is to just install another anti-virus but I was just wondering if anyone has come across a fix for this ?

    I found the problem lol.

In all seriousness, I'd try another Free Anti-Virus like Avast and see if the same issue arises.

Free Antivirus | Forum - MS Outlook 2007 Doesn't Like Add-In For AVG Free 2011

Appears to be a known problem. That's just one of many posts on the AVG forums about this issue.

I personally feel that AVG has gone downhill over the last couple years, and this illustrates the problem. OL2007 is a very popular email program and this should have been thoroughly tested before AVG 2011's release. While Avast may be a good alternative, I have no problem recommending MSE. At least with MSE, you can expect Microsoft will ensure it works with their other major applications. But if there is a problem, you know they have the resources from both sides (MSE and Outlook development teams) looking at the problem and working together on a quick solution.

AVG's response to this, "AVG Outlook plugin crash is an already known issue which will be fixed with one of the upcoming AVG program updates", is too vague, open ended, and therefore unacceptable, IMO. "One of the upcoming... ...updates" could be weeks away!
