    Screwed up permissions

    Hi

    C Drive = Vista Home Premium SP1
    W Drive = Windows 7 RC
    D Drive = a) All my docs/files and b) My I Tunes library

Somehow, when booted into Vista, I can see, edit, move, add to my ITunes library on D Drive, but Access Denied on all my other docs/files.

When booted into Win7, I can see, add to, edit, open all files, but Access Denied to ITunes. TO actually GET to be able to use/edit these files when in WIN7 I had to go through each file, 1000's of them, and alter permissions to ALL AUTHENTICATED USERS, as Rod/PC or Administrator users was simply not recognised.

I am the only user of my PC, I ONLY get User:ROD when logging in to either O/S. Password is the same in either O/S.

When I change OWNERSHIP on D Drive and all subfolders, in one or the other O/S I can see and use EVERTHING on that D Drive, BUT NOT from the 'other' O/S...access denied again.

Isn't there a simple way just to have all my files on D Drive accessable to me, and USABLE BY ME, no matter which HDD and O/S I boot into? HOW can I just make D Drive visible and usable by me, the lone, sole user of this PC? This really seems unnecessarily complicated!

I see there were a lot of Views, but no Replies....but I thought I would share the outcome with you.

    Until yesterday...

Using Vista partition I could see and use my I-Tunes library on D Drive but no documents.

Using Win7 partition I could see/use my Documents on D Drive but not my I-tunes library.

    VERY ANNOYING.

Yesterday ( and I dont know why) I decided to put SP2 on my Vista partition. Seemless....painless.

AND NOW - SOMEHOW and FOR WHATEVER REASON - from both Vista or Win7 O/S - I can use and edit and see all my Documents and all my I-Tunes library on my separate D Drive.

    I am a happy (though non-plussed) camper.

One (other) oddity though. MY COMPUTER shows my C Drive as 500GB when it is in fact now 400GB (100 GB re=partitioned to W Drive for Win 7 & THAT 100GB shows up properly)...

    huh?

Thanks for sharing mate. The lack of replies also indicates a lot of other non-plussed members

The way the cross-permissions between the two OS'es interact is a nuisance.

What does disk management show for the partition sizes? (right click 'Computer' > Manage > Storage > Disk Management

    ......DOH!!

I had my HDD sizes screwed up in my head. See my CP System for correct info. All is well...with the PC, NOT necessarily with ME !!!

    Tks
