I've used Kaspersky RescueCD on some machines and it removes viruses just like a normal AV

Although this review is a couple of years old, the only really major changes to these rescue CDs are the updated virus signatures. The basic mechanics of removing viruses have remained the same. The blogger concluded, "I’d say Kaspersky Rescue CD is the winner because it is free, supports signature updates and flexible configurations."

Just my own 2 cents worth, once a machine has been infected the only thing that can guarantee a clean machine is a format/reinstall of the OS and all other programs - either from the install media or a known clean system image.

I've had good luck with AVG Rescue Disk, it comes with some good tools.

I just recently d/led Kaspersky Rescue CD, haven't used it yet.

Bitdefender rescue cd can be updated. See the instructions:

Using The BitDefender Rescue Cd - BitDefender Forum

Download (d/l the .iso, not what's in the folders)

    Index of /rescue_cd

Even though the midas folder has a newer date, it's the seperate .iso file to d/l. You can do an update before you scan. Not used it myself, but it's one of the few that lets you get the latest definitions before you scan.
