I've here got 2 confusing messages - Norton 360 is telling me I'm protected, while the Action Centre is telling me it's disabled!

What's going on here?

I think that norton is right. Try disabling norton protection and start it again. Maybe security centar was confused about something..

This behaviour is not unique to norton. Sometimes, unregistering and re-registering WMIUTILS.DLL file will fix this issue.

Click the Start button, then click All Programs > Accessories > Run. In the Run dialog box, type the following text:

regsvr32 /u WMIUTILS.DLL

Click OK.

Restart the computer.

Click the Start button, and then click All Programs > Accessories > Run.

In the Run dialog box, type the following text:

regsvr32 WMIUTILS.DLL

Click OK.

Restart the computer.
