Sweet, so far I like MSE V2. It's been good to me so far.

I never got it upgraded automatically. So I uninstalled the old version and installed the new version.

The upgrade (update is the term used for definitions and the engine, upgrade for the program verrsion) will require intervention.

MSE will *not* automatically upgrade from v1 to v2. When it checks for the version upgrade your status will turn to at risk (yellow/orange) and you will be advised to upgrade.
Yes, you will be notified when it is staged for you. It will not be available to everyone all at once, as is the normal pattern. Sit tight. If you *must* have the latest, then simply download the new version from the official page and install - it will remove v1 as part of the install.
    From: MSE 2.0 Released? 12-17-2010.

Direct Download from Airbot's link: microsoft.com/downloads/en/MSE

Make sure you pick the one for your system......x64 is bigger than x86.

Hmmm from my experience I've found inconsistancies with the software upgrade portion of MSE. Sometime the upgrade option worked, somethimes it didn't, in this case moving from 1.xxx to 2.xxx it didn't.

A lot of people make the mistake of clicking the "update" tab thinking that that will update the program when in fact all it does is update the virus definitions. Going to the "Help" tab and clicking "Check for software updates" actually updates the MSE program, though like I said, I've found it inconsistant.

Just wanted to point that out.

Now that this is final maybe subsequent updates will work more consistently.

Anyways FYI, I downloaded from the link Airbot provided and just did an over the top upgrade, no issue.

    Hi all
I installed vers 2 yesterday and have noticed some strange going ons. Firstly i have a task created to check for updates at log on which i modified for this version as some files have moved. This runs fine and updates at log on but the tray icon doesnt display the updating icon like it used to,it just stays the same green tick. Also i have no pop up when a scheduled scan starts. Is this just me or has anyone else got the same thing

The only time MSEv1 upgraded for me was for the virus engine, at that time the program did turn orange.

Yes, the distinction has to be made between Upgrading and Updating, that why I put the first quote in there.

But as human nature has as always. Displays a lack of patience, and doesn't want to wait to be spoon-fed by anybody let alone MS, luckily one can go and download it for themselves.

    Thanks for your clarification.

We can only hope, wait, and see.
In my research I've come across posts where there are enormous amounts of program UpGrades for MSE from users, but again we will have to wait to see what, if any MS will incorporate into MSE.

One item I'd like to see is a more comprehensive context menu when you click on the tray icon.

Instead of just "OPEN" it should have other options like the one you show in your attachment.

I submitted it to MSE development, and started the clock....

That's what I did, and same here. No issues.

    Hi dan,

I can't say I have noticed it, but I'll set up a test and report back.

I do know MS wants MSE to run as unobtrusively as possible. that maybe the reason for the lack of visual action.

MS is notorious for keeping a tight lip. Even the Beta Testers, and MODS on Social-Net were given no warning of the V2 release.
    Their kinda of like.......Pis***

For now keep track of update versions, as long as they are newer, higher, I'd say your okay.

    Hi Anak
Have been playing for the last few hours and its really odd. I changed the signature updates reg key to update every hour as a test and the icon did display the updating symbol on the last three occasions anyway. However the task i created to update on reboot reports as run both in task scheduler and the mse interface but no change in the system tray icon. The icon does also show the running scan picture but they seem to have done away with the pop up we used to get. Suppose like anything it may just take getting used too.
    Look forward to your findings

    Danny

You point is well taken. Mines was to point out my experiences and the inconsistancies I've seen with upgrades. Millage may vary.

    All good :)

One of the things I do hope they fixed is the long "Full" scan times, usually around 4 hours! I'll have to do a full scan when I'm finished with my projects to see. Will post results later.

    Peace
