    Odd Magnifying Glass Icon

Hello, I noticed an odd magnifying glass icon in the taskbar and I am unable to actually click it and wondering if this is the signs of Malware, Viruses, etc. Anyone else noticed this before? Thanks in advanced.

Nope, that can't be it. It's unchecked. I even went into Run>msconfig>Starup and don't see anything for the Magnifying service.

    Go to the icon
right click and see if it says unpin from taskbar.
If you do or dont get rid of it, for your own peace of mind
Run a full anti virus scan
Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes. Update first.

Leave your cursor on it for 5-10 seconds see if the name comes up

I'm unable to bring anything up (When I right click, nothing comes up. Same with left clicking). I downloaded Malwarebytes now & updated it. I'll post results when they come back if anythings infected.

    1 Infected file
    PUM.Hijack.StartMenu
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Start_ShowSearch (PUM.Hijack.StartMenu) -> Bad: (0) Good: (1) -> No action taken.

OK I will give this to our security expert.
There may be a wait, but you will get the best care we have
    Have a great Holiday
Glad that I could help in at least a little way

Run the malwarebytes, too full scan
You came back pretty fast for a full scan. usually at least an hour.

Have you modified any of your search options relevant to your start menu such as in the attached pics

If so it is generally a false positive, the PUM stands for Potentially Unwanted Modification the problem being mbam can not define if the modification was made by the User or Malware.

    Start_ShowSearch (PUM.Hijack.StartMenu)
as indicated here it is "search is not showing in the start menu"

Either way mbam will just change the relevant registry value from (0) to (1) which will re enable the search option in the start menu.

EDIT: BTW i am not the security expert richc46 was referring to, it is just i have seen a lot of this with mbam so thought i would jump in while your waiting & try to help a little :)

I quarantined the infected object. The icon in the taskbar has been removed and hasn't shown up since I quarantined it.
