last night my Avast stopped working in the sense that web shield stopped working...then the mail shield failed!! So I uninstalled avast and put MSE back on my system, the real time protection is failing on this also...it wont let me update the definitions... Any ideas?
In win defender I have 'use real-time protection' ticked
yet on the home page at bottom in 'Status' it states that:
"real-time protection: Off"
anyone throw some light on this discreptancy.

as a Tecnet suscriber I've been using MS'es Forefront Client Security (it's the big brother to MSE) -- very small footprint, definitions updated almost daily and it really works well.
It can be installed in Stand alone mode on individual work stations and that's what I've done.
