Does the average person immediately think that "Backup" means uploading everything to some companies servers?
The answer is (based on emprical evidence) "no".
OK, but that is far removed from 'Careful with N360. If your not paying CLOSE attention it'll upload the entire contents of your HD to Norton's own "secure servers" automatically.'
The user has to take positive action before any backup is made.

For those of you who haven't taken the time to read up on Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) (Morro) you will be surprise to know that only the first 75,000 will have a shot at the download, or if you have a TechEd/MSDN account. So you the average Joe or Jill out there will end up getting MSE from a torrent site until its actual release date (Oct 23, 2009, hopefully).

hmm... does it updaye and all that good stuff? i'll give it a go.
Im more concerned if it will update while im playing TF2? I just downloaded and installed it but if anybody knows that would be great.

This is by far the most basic AV i have ever used. There is no option at all to select when it updates??

i ditched Avira & Nod32, it seemed that they ALWAYS update (freeze up everything...) when im in an online game. +MSE updates through Windows Update, so depending on those settings (WU) will be when the MSE updates as well.

How are you getting notified? Are you manually checking the "Update" tab 4-6 times a day?

Because I get no notifications or indications here.
