Do you still have access to the original files from the previous installation? Or a backup of the certificate that you are notified about when you first encrypt something? If not, you just lost those encrypted files. You cannot recover them without the key.

If you do not have the key, you are not getting the files back. It is impossible at this time to decrypt AES without having the key.

No, nobody can help you out. The files are lost. If you don't have the certificate, then you can't access the files. Your fault.

Unless you exported the certificate, you will be unable to recover your files. Lesser security would kinda defeat the point of encryption. There is a lesson to be learned here.

I have the same situation... except I still have the old windows installation in windows.old directory.

I previously had Windows 7 Professional 32bit installed and had some files encrypted in my Documents. Prior to installing the present Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit, I copied those files to a different drive.

So how do I import/inherit the certificates from the previous installation to access my files?
