    Windows defender update = virus?

I'm sure there has to be some sort of mixup, but i just downloaded the latest definition file for defender (1mb, unusually large for defender). As soon as it downloaded, Avast seen it as a Trojan Horse

    Malware Name: Win32elf-MBA [Trj]

    VPS version 6/22/09

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Definition Updates\{68D5893E-98DC-45F6-9AE3-6CA925079455}\mpasbase.vdm.temp

Oh well, better to be safe than sorry.

As long as they don't pull an AVG (removing system files)..

    Upload the file to Jotti's:
    Jotti's malware scan

You can also use VirusTotal - Free Online Virus and Malware Scan
to upload the file and scan.

Let's see both both findings ... copy and paste the results in your next reply

Thank you for the interest Jacee. However, upon detection i "aborted connection" and instead of moving to chest, i believe i deleted instead.

Suprisingly not but a day or less after this, there is now a 10.6mb update file for defender. Thats humungo by a definition's standard. SO, who knows, i dont, but am now going to attempt this new update.
