Hi I have just Upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium and am fairly pleased with the result.
I do have a niggly problem in as much Windows Defender Options does not work it won`t show Allowed Programmes etcIt starts to work but after the whirly wheel turns for a couple of seconds it stops and nothing happens.
    Any bright ideas out there?
    Many thanks.

If you are using Microsoft Security Essentials, Defender is turned off by default. It is included in Security Essentials.
If you are not using Essentials, you should begin to do so. It is one of the best AV and its free. Its made specifically for Windows.

    Hi richc46.Thanks for replying.
I did try that but with the same results.
I currently use Zone Alarm total security and presumably could not run the two together?
    Thanks again.

I am not familiar with Zone Alarm, but I do know that the total security package does have anti malware protection, which serves the same function as defender. Bottom line there is no need for defender.
May I suggest, even better than Defender, run a free Malwarebytes scan once a week. It is one of the best for Malware and since it does not run in real time, there will be no conflicts with Zone Alarm

I have a clean installation of Win7 Ultimate 64x; I just made it last week. My security settings is set to 'download but ask me before installing'. I have a message from Windows that there is an definition update to Windows Defender.

I have Norton Internet Security installed. I do not want a conflict between these two softwares.

Since it is a Definition Update I assume that Windows Defender is already present and active but I cannot see that. I can see however that Windows Firewall is turned off; there is a notice in System and Security that Windows Firewall is turned off and that this portion of security is being managed by Norton's firewall.

My question is, would installing this Windows Defender update conflict with Norton Internet Security?

    Thank you.

Windows Defender is found in "Services". I don't know if there will be a conflict between it and Norton. I don't use either one.

I have found and disabled Windows Defender. Here is the link that helped me make the decision to do so

Norton Internet Security and Windows Defender

    Thanks for your help.
