Avast not starting with Windows

Alright, back when this PC used to run Windows Vista, I installed Avast because my budget couldn't afford an AV with a price tag, anyway I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and ever since then Avast has not been starting up with windows. The program tells me its supposed to, and msconfig's startup tab also says that its supposed to start. If anyone could help me figure this out I would be grateful, but if i have to reinstall the program then that's fine as well.

I would install Avast! again to ensure that the correct settings are present in the registry.

It's easy to uninstall and reinstall Avast. If you don't get what you need that way, try MS Security Essentials for awhile. It's even more invisible than Avast and just as effective. http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

These kinds of problems occur in an in-place Upgrade. Have you considered a clean reinstall to shrug off any corrruption imported from Vista? re-install windows 7

To be honest, I just prefer Avast, I've been using it for years, plus I did try MSE for a few days but my dial-up connection couldn't download the update files, so i gave up and uninstalled it.

Also I was aware that certain programs wouldn't work when i upgraded Vista to 7, there was a small list of them but Avast wasn't on it so i disregarded it. Also like I said, its not like the program doesn't work, it just has an issue starting up with Windows.

Uninstall and download and install the newest version from the web site should cure it.

Sometimes it is easiest to restart from scratch.

The Win7 Upgrade advisor which runs during in-place Upgrade doesn't begin to sort the issues which can arise from imported settings for programs.

These hidden AppData settings are a corruption path into a Win7 OS install which can accelerate creeping corruption or even hobble the OS.

This is why a Clean Reinstall almost always results in Win7 which is even better than getting a new computer with it's choking bloatware and useless factory utilities.
