    That's exactly it

    Every AV software does it though...Informs you after the file is on your machine.

    That's why I'd refuse to pay a £50 (or whatever it is) a year subscription to something like Norton Internet Security. The exact same thing happens, I've seen it...

    I use Vipre premium which has web blocking for sites that want to plant something on my computer.
    It shows up a screen that says "blocked by Vipre" and refuses to go to the site.
    Works for me. vipre.com will get you there. I have the all you can eat premium version for my home computers and it works fine. Or at least it is a warm fuzzy for me.

    Norton does the same for some sites, but they (AVs) never get them all.

    Orbital, what kind of account were you using? UAC on or off?

    I always leave UAC at it's default setting, never had a need to change it as there are minimal propmts compared to Vista
