Virus aftermath, missing folders

Yesterday I somehow got the antivirus 2011 virus. I got rid of it by starting up in safe mode. Once in safe mode the virus didn't have much power over the OS anymore. I was able to start task manager, track down and delete the virus's .exe. But by then it was too late. When I view my hard drive it says theres nothing in it, even though the used space is the same as it was yesterday. My documents, music and pictures folders are empty. Ok, what I'm guessing here is that the folders are all there still, just hidden. The folder options are missing, so I can't set it to show all hidden folders. Also, when I search "show hidden folders" in help, the link to open folder options doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hello there. First of alll I'll suggest you to scan the system with Malwarebytes.

If you just picked it up yesterday, then it might be worth a try to restore to a point 2, or better, 3 points past where you got the infection.

Don't go to the 1st restore point as some malware embeds itself in the 1st restore point.

And as StalkeR said, run a malwarebytes scan...

You could also boot in safe mode with command prompt & run the command "Dir/w/p" to see what files are listed on the HD.

Follow StalkerS suggestion, run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

If files are still hidden after that, you can try this

Unhide.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/unhide.exe) (by Grinler)

Once the program has been downloaded, double-click on the Unhide.exe icon on your desktop and allow the program to run. This program will remove the +H, or hidden, attribute from all the files on your hard drives. If there are any files that were purposely hidden by you, you will need to hide them again after this tool is run."
