Malwarebytes is targeted more towards malware. It will catch some viruses, however it has limits to what it can detect, viruswise. Viruses generally fall into a different category and are usually more destructive.

You can however use Malwarebytes in conjunction with an AV, as Malwarebytes is an on demand scanner.

To get an idea of the choices you have in the AV department, perusing the threads will give you an idea of what most people use or prefer.

MSE is a good free AV if you'd like to try it

    Hi,

In a way it is an "anti-virus" product since malware is a generic term for any malicious software/code be it a classic virus or trojan or worm.

Malwarebytes will stop a lot of malware, but not all of it, as neither will any single product. For this reason, it often makes sense to use another anti-virus product along side. There are lot of choices, and even more opinions on these choices, than you may care for.

Many users, myself included, have Malwarebytes running, and also free Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). I recommend using that, or another of your choice, in addition to Malwarebytes. That way, you improve, but don't guarantee, your security.

You can get MSE here :

Fair enough....but I would still install and use another product in addition to Malwarebytes. The choice is yours........

Heres some insight into what MBAM does and doesnt.

We carve out our niche by looking at what antivirus detects and removes successfully, and then explicitly going after the rest. We try to make it as easy as possible for you to couple us with an antivirus for a full security solution.

Mmm...perhaps you would be wise to reconsider what you are downloading. There is NO combination of AV software that will protect you 100%. Your best defense is your downloading/browsing habits.

    Good luck,
