    Rescue Disks

I have been trying out Rescue disks to have in case of emergency. I was using Kaspersky but it no longer works. Gives me "database corrupted" message. Made new disk, downloaded new iso, etc.

Bit defender can not find my ssd's. Avira and FSecure can't find the ssd's which is where the OS is. They find the spinners no problem. Is any one experinceing this?

Are you getting all the disks from the same source? Sounds like possibly a virus or misconfiguration stopping the process. Perhaps the web sites fault if you're getting them all in one place.

You could try d/l ing from here & see if you get the same results....

    ISO Sources

I have tried different sources and wrote probably a half dozen disks from them. The results are all the same. They will detect my spinners but not the SSD's. They even detect an external sata drive.

Will avast run if you boot to a dos prompt?

I don't know about the Avast / DOS question. Try it and see, can't hurt...

I would guess some kind of permission to allow access by these disks somehow got changed along the line. Or something (program, virus, etc.) changed them....

I'll keep my eyes open to see if I spot anything about this....

Might want to check the integrity of the HD (Scandisk)

    Disk Check

The two disks check out per scan disk. The only thing in the log was some unused indexes cleaned up. I set some permissions in the security tab for them which didn't make any difference.

I am thinking I see the problem. Those two disks are plugged in to a Marvell PciE 6G controller. The disks showing up are on an Intel controller. (Check png) My money says That the controller is not getting loaded when I boot from the Virus Scan Disks. If that is the problem, I setting here trying to think what the remedy is. There would have to be a driver loaded at some point in the boot sequence.

I would think so, unless there's an incompatibility issue. It could be too that the rescue disks don't see the other drive because of the multiple controllers. Or they might be looking for the C:\ drive by default (just mentioned that in case your OS was on another drive aside from C:\) and getting confused.

I'm not sure on that one. My experience with Ubantu is limited, I have it on the HD but haven't gotten to play with it much since school started...

    Found this though:

    Ubuntu

Yeah, I found that link. It was what set me on that idea. But I have found I have got another problem. My disks are not correct at the bios level and I have lost the ability to boot from USB. I am getting ready to reload the bios. May even have to reset the cmos. I'll post back.

    Ho Hum

Reloading the bios fixed the missing disks in Linux. The Bit Defender Rescue disk now sees them all and updates and scans. I think the other rescue disks will now work try them later. Also I can now boot from USB. The bios must have been "BORKED". I got one more problem, rom deck just locked closed and I have to get it open. I am going to shut down and see if that clears the rom deck. It's been a fun day.
