Windows 7: Cyber Defender antivirus

Cyber Defender antivirus

I had no uninstaller for Cyber Defender so I called them up because there was this big Phone number for support then after they took 2 hours screwing around with my computer they gave me a song and dance about how it had a virus and we can do this and that. They re-installed the software and then un-installed it which is something I could do in 10 minutes but they had a big phone number in front of me so I called thinking they can tell me where the un-installer is. So after the updates for Avast I’m running a scan but this computer is used a couple of hours a year and I always update Avast when I use it and I don’t know how Cyber Defender got on it in the first place. Well anyway does anyone know anything about Cyber Defender because I have Avast running now?

Hi,

I'm confused. Do you want to uninstall Cyber Defender? Or keep it? Your post isn't very clear on what you are asking.

Can you re-write it so it reads a bit clearer please?

Regards,
Golden

I believe he wants Cyber Defender gone which to my understanding is a Rogue ani-virus/anti-malware program.
The best way to get rid of it is to use Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware, that will clean it up.

The only way I could think of that Rouge anti-virus/anti-malware program being on your computer is the result of running a scan on the "MyCleanPC" or "DoubleMySpeed" web sites (both owned by CyberDefender Corp.) which distributes the program.
If you Google search "Cyber Defender" you will see all the bad experiences others have had with that program, most being swindled of their money.
My W.O.T. (Web Of Trust) add-on for FireFox shows both of the sites having horrid ratings as well.

EDIT: This Wikipedia link about CyberDefender just about wraps up everything I have read about CyberDefender and their Rogue AV/AM software:
