Gaining Offline Access to BitLocker Encrypted Volume

Theoretically, if my install was riddled with malware & I wanted to use the UBCD4W, for instance. How could I manually decrypt what would otherwise be seen as an invalid file system, to salvage what I could?

I have BitLocker switched on as I read it makes it harder for hackers. I got burnt when encrypting my backups, I was left without access to a usable system. Though that is a whole 'nother post.

I keep duplicates of both the startup & recovery keys on three seperate flash drives.
