Security settings

I screwed up some security setting somewhere, and now I can't open any links from email. the message I'm getting is

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

Well, I'm the only one using this computer, and the only thing that I THOUGHT I did was temporarily turn off my malware to install some software. I must have done something else.

What can I change so I can click links in my Outlook email?

Thanks,
Carl

I solved my own problem. It was NOT a security setting. Excuse me, but I had the audacity to uninstall Chrome. Seriously. I tried it, didn't like it, and uninstalled it.

I googled the error message and I wound up here:

Can't open any hyperlinks. (This operation has been cancelled - Microsoft Answers

Interesting thread, you should read it. Bottom line, I reinstalled Chrome and fixed my problem. I still kept IE as my browser. Chrome is just taking up space now, but also preventing the error.

Hi, glad you solved it but let's look at getting rid of chrome for you

Can you click Default Programs and click "Set program access and computer defaults". Click the expand arrow for the current configuration and check that Outlook is set as your default email program. It could be that the setting was changed when uninstalling Chrome (sounds silly but can happen) and needed to be reset.

IE9 was my problem.

I, too, have been suffering from exactly the same problem and have tried several things to resolve the problem - installed Google Chrome, uninstalled Google Chrome, ran Microsoft Fix 50544, etc. I eventually decided that I would try taking IE off completely and running Firefox for a while and see if that resolved the issue of not being able to use hyperlinks. Instead of taking IE straight off I actually reverted from IE9 back to IE8 and, guess what, all of my hyperlinks work again. Don't promise that this will work for everyone but if you have "upgraded" to IE9 and are encountering this problem it might be worth a try. You can put IE9 back again easily enough if you want to.
