Yes I can get to the safe mode but it will not let me get into the internet.

Currently I am running something from Microsoft that is scanning for Malicious Software. I’m running it from the XP side so I don’t know if it will scan the W7 side of the hard dive??

Once that’s done I’ll run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and see what happens.

Is there a way to copy the anti-malware program to a disk and then run it in the W7 safe mode?

Just wondering, WHY would you have both XP and Win7?

Have you never heard of dual booting OSes? I have 3 on my system right now...XP, 7 and *barf* Ubuntu.

Boot Windows 7 again long enough to see the name of the product they are trying to sell you. It will be something like Internet Security 2011 or Windows Recovery blah blah (they use generic names). Boot back to XP and visit the website Bleeping Computer - Computer Help and Discussion for full removal instructions (search by that generic product name they used). You can be back up and running virus free in about an hour.

One more free tool for scareware removal is Norton Power Eraser. Heed their warning: Because Norton Power Eraser uses aggressive methods to detect threats, there is a risk that it can select some legitimate programs for removal. You should use this tool very carefully.

My computer is back up and running. I had to reset Internet Explorer to get back on the internet but that took only 5 minutes. Here’s what I did to solve the problem. From the XP side I ran a program, for 4 hours, from Microsoft that searched for Malicious Software that found nothing and said the computer was safe. It did search both sides of the hard drive though. Then I ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and that found the problem and eliminated it. Thank you ever so much.

A comment or two about a partitioned hard drives. If it was not for having a partitioned hard drive I never would have been able to contact any and all of you for advice and help. The partitioned drive has saved me time, effort, frustration and money. My computer was built 5 years ago to do aggressive gaming on one side (Vista) and to do the “normal” stuff on the XP side. When I upgraded to W7 left the partition in place. It again saved my butt and I’m sure it will again.

To everyone who read my plight for help and made suggestion a BIG THANK YOU, you saved me. I don’t know a whole lot about OS, software, or hardware I’m a button pusher and when something goes wrong I ask questions of those who know or can point me in the right direction.
