Most of the viruses that infect people's computers are often because they either cannot use a PC properly, or they don't have the appropriate protection against them. You're right, sometimes we can't control what we are exposed to, but the right use of a computer, dramatically reduces the chances of getting one.

I don't basically disagree with that. One just has to be careful when addressing such things not to brand people as stupid, incompetent, or indeed guilty of wrongdoing.

We are here to help people if we can, not to castigate them for not knowing something, inadvertently doing something they shouldn't have, or having problems caused by things beyond their control or knowledge.

Of course, if somebody is using cracked or pirated software, there is no point in trying to help them, and it is in any case against forum rules.

Basically they have asked for trouble and got it.

I have experience such problem before, a format didn't help me at all, at last I bought a new hard drive.

I agree that formatting does not always solve the problem. My brother had the hhd infected with a virus once. Not even full format gave way to it. However, after a low-level formatting my brother had no more news of that virus. Thus, talking about buying a new hdd is too early.

And I thought my reformat suggestion was extreme. If done correctly sir, a reformat would almost always (I would not say always because I may have to take back what I said) solve the problem. One mentioned that even after a reformat, the virus still persisted. Was that a correct format sir? Maybe the person only formatted the C drive - not the other drives. Even if you reformat drive C, and the other drives have viruses, you would still catch them no matter how many times you format drive C. If the TS has a copy of genuine win7 and has no problems with a reformat, I suggest he/she should reformat the machine. It is the most extreme option but it is WAY cheaper than buying another HDD.

And also, I would be careful next time when I would say that the TS is downloading torrents, having keygens and other stuff because he/she might have contracted the virus in some other way. Have you seen my signature? I scanned a customer's USB drive and caught those nasties. Of course, the original source for the viruses would have been from torrents, keygens and others but what if I did not have Kaspersky installed and I just opened the USB drive? I would also be infected by those nasties. Bottom line, he/she might have been infected by a USB drive he/she inserted when he/she does not have adequate protection.
