What is the best Most Popular firewall to use? I read about a week ago that Zone alarm would cause Windows 7 system instability. Is this true? What is your set up?

TBH hon you don't need a 3rd party Firewall ... Windows & already has a good Firewall and to make it a great two way Firewall please follow this Tutorial by Brink Windows Seven Forums Administrator.

Windows Firewall is good. If you need stronger security that you can install ZoneAlarm, Comodo or Outpust. Also other antivirus softwares have included and Firewall.

most popular, as in most amount of users?

windows firewall, without a doubt.

(however, i'm not one for following the crowd, i use the kaspersky firewall included in kis2011, as i got it free from my bank. i do recommend windows firewall -and mse - to others though, it does the job.)
